Understanding Asthma
Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease primarily managed through traditional treatments. However, some patients with severe asthma may still experience recurrent symptoms and become dependent on oral corticosteroids to control their condition. This reliance can increase the risks of osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, and other side effects.
Recent advancements in precision medicine have enabled the detection of different asthma phenotypes and the use of targeted therapies. Through collaboration among multidisciplinary teams and the integration of precision medicine, personalized treatment plans can be tailored to each patient, effectively helping asthma patients achieve long-term disease control.
Asthma (Case 1)
Alfred has struggled with severe asthma since childhood and has experienced frequent exacerbations despite multiple pharmacologic regimens. Frequent asthma exacerbations severely impacted both his life and his work. Long-term use of oral corticosteroids has also led to several adverse effects. Alfred will share his treatment experience, detailing how, under the follow-up of a multidisciplinary team, he received a personalized treatment plan that included the use of biologic agent for precision therapy. This approach has led to improvements in his condition, greatly enhancing his overall health and quality of life.
