About Us

About Us

HKU Immunology & Allergy is a team of dedicated healthcare professionals and research staff devoted to improving the management of immunologic disorders with evidence-based medicine. Being part of the Division of Rheumatology & Clinical Immunology of the Department of Medicine (School of Clinical Medicine, HKU), our multi-disciplinary team is built upon a strong belief in translational clinical research – with patients informing our scientific direction at the laboratory bench, and focusing on translating outcomes of our findings back to the bedside.

By also offering comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate training, our team also endeavours to nurture competent and passionate medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals to care for our patients. The ultimate aim is to contribute to improvements in health and development of Immunology & Allergy services in Hong Kong and beyond.

As the foremost and only recognised training centre for Immunology & Allergy, our team has been responsible for the training of local specialists as well as other immunology/allergy healthcare professionals since 2021. Based in Queen Mary Hospital and Grantham Hospital, we have also taken up a leading position in the development of clinical immunology and allergy services in Hong Kong. In recognition of our team’s significant academic and clinical achievements, we have been awarded and recognized with the following:

  • HAE Knowledgeable Hospital (HAE International) since 2019
  • Outstanding Team Award (Grantham Hospital) in 2022
  • Outstanding Team Award (Hong Kong West Cluster) in 2023
  • Urticaria Centre of Reference and Excellence (UCARE) since 2023
  • Angioedema Centre of Reference and Excellence (ACARE) since 2023

Clinical Services

The Division is responsible for the management of patients with various immunological disorders on both in- and out-patient basis. Acute in-patient service is provided at Queen Mary Hospital. Day cases for specialised procedures including biologics/immunoglobulin infusions, subcutaneous therapy patient training, desensitisation and allergy testing are performed at the Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology Centre (RCIC) at Grantham Hospital.

There are also regular out-patient clinics dedicated to various immunological disorders at Queen Mary Hospital and Grantham Hospital, as listed below. We are also the Hub of the Hong Kong Drug Allergy Delabelling Initiative (HK-DADI).

As part of a holistic approach to chronic immunological disorders, the Division is also heavily involved in patient and public education through the engagement with the Hong Kong Allergy Association, Primary Immunodeficiency League, Hong Kong Hereditary Angioedema Patient Group and various patient self-help groups.

Specialist Outpatient Clinics

The Specialist Outpatient Clinics at Queen Mary Hospital accept appointments (with referral letters) across the territory. Non-Hong Kong residents will be charged appropriate fees set by the Hospital. There are NO walk-in services available and all cases are by appointment only.
